A Legacy Of North Carolina Moonshine Perfection
Since before the days of prohibition the “Broadslab” region has been known for the quality and quantity of home-brewed whiskey.
Jeremy Norris, Broadslab owner and master distiller, traced his family lines back in order to capture the rich heritage of the region’s famed moonshine when building Broadslab Distillery.
It’s a history rich with exploits, perseverance, and a quality product. Our recipes are the embodiment of this legacy and were passed down by the great-great grandfathers on both sides of Jeremy’s family. One of them, William “Bill” McLamb, was active in the dawn of the Moonshine trade and distilling smooth, sipping whiskey long before prohibition.
Opening in 2012, Brothers Vilgalys was the first distillery in Durham, and Krupnikas is one of six spirits the company produces. Its wonderful line of flavor-forward liqueurs — Zaphod, Beebop, Beatnik and Jabberwock — are 60 proof, sweetened with raw cane sugar and flavored with whole botanicals, herbs and spices.
The spiced honey liqueur was created by Benedictine monks in the 1500s but quickly became a favorite of nobility in Lithuania and Poland. As immigrants from that region came to the United States, the family recipes for making Krupnikas on their stovetops came with them. Vilgalys began making his version in much the same way, with the goal of being enjoyed by his family and friends. However, once they began requesting more bottles, he knew he was on to something larger.

Established in 1937, Canal Wood is the largest independent timber merchant in the Southeast, specializing in timber management, harvesting, marketing, sales, and transportation. The lion is a traditional brewing symbol, legend has it that before refrigeration the barrels of beer were stored in caves to keep it cool. A lion was perched at the mouth of the cave to ensure none of the tasty liquids were pilfered. We have been unable to confirm the story, but after a few tasty liquids it seems more likely to be true.
Carolina Brewing Company first opened its doors in 1995, making it the oldest active brewery in Wake County.

The company is family owned and operated serving the eastern part of North Carolina and sets its focus in the export of logs overseas to numerous countries such as China, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Cambodia and Spain to name a few.
Forest Products, Inc. is a family owned business that has been serving the furniture industry since 1958 by providing lumber for furniture, cabinetry, millwork, and flooring. Independent Leaf Tobacco Company was formed in April, 2006 by Richard D. “Rick” Smith, who retired after a 39-year career buying and selling tobacco around the world for Export Leaf Tobacco Co. in Wilson, NC. Working as an independent tobacco dealer, ILTC buys all types of tobacco from growers and sells it to a myriad of domestic and international customers.

Jerry G. Williams & Sons is situated on 40 acres in Smithfield, NC which is approximately 27 miles southeast of Raleigh, NC on Interstate I-95. Jerry G. Williams & Sons cuts Appalachian and Southern Hardwood and Southern Yellow Pine and Cypress Lumber.
Production is 60% hardwood and 40% pine and cypress lumber. Annually, the mill turns out 15 million board feet of lumber. The 15 million board feet go into furniture, floors, decking, and pallets.
Lawrence Lumber Company is a 28 acre hardwood concentration yard located in Maiden, NC at the base of the Appalachian Mountains. Built in 2000 by the Gori family of Rome, Italy, Lawrence Lumber utilizes state of the art technology for their Appalachian hardwoods to produce some of the finest hardwood lumber for molding, mill work, flooring, cabinet, and furniture manufacturers around the world.
We offer Kiln Dried Red Oak, White Oak, and White Ash in 4/4 through 8/4 and Poplar in 4/4 through 16/4, all 2 common and better qualities.

Lonerider opened its doors in Raleigh, North Carolina on January 23rd, 2009 with a beer and a dream. Today, Lonerider is distributed in nine states and is counted amongst top 150 breweries in USA. Sorghum
Our whiskies are unique in that they use a sorghum grain based mash in place of the most commonly used corn mash. The sorghum plant is an extremely drought resistant and high-energy crop – making it efficient in solar energy and water use conservation. Sorghum is also naturally gluten-free, making it not only a sustainable and tasty ingredient in our spirits but also a great choice for those who are gluten intolerant. Talk about a win-win-win!

Nantahala Forest Products, founded in 2006 is a family operated business that specializes in log procurement for both domestic and international export markets. Located in the heart of the Appalachian region, we have an abundance of timber resources to choose from to meet each customer’s log specifications. Our operating philosophy at Nantahala Forest Products is to not sacrifice quality in order to increase quantity, and with each order we strive to fulfil it with three main components: quality, timeliness and satisfaction. All of the timber harvested for our lumber products is locally sourced within a 60-mile radius of our sawmill in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Pig Pounder is a craft microbrewery located in the heart of midtown Greensboro!
Our sister restaurant, Darryl’s Wood Fired Grill, used a pig prominently in their branding and marketing materials during the mid 80’s. Favorite items were the ‘Love Me Tender’ pig stickers, pig hats and pig bucks.
In 1988 Darryl’s launched its’ own brand of beer. It was produced by Gilbert Robinson, Inc., and won a silver medal in the Great American Beer Festival.
A pint, or 16oz “Pound-er”, was called the “Pig Pounder” and featured a pig-faced label to symbolize Darryl’s North Carolina roots.

While the hard work of creating a great distilled spirit begins with fermentation, the concept for one begins with a cocktail glass. Southmark Forest Products was founded in 1994 by a veteran lumber trader with over 39 years of experience in the Southern Pine wholesale industry. Our team of traders has an additional 150 years of combined experience in the softwood/hardwood and building materials industry. We specialize in serving the building component, window, stairway, furniture, millwork, wood component manufacturers, industrial packaging, and laminating industries in the eastern U.S. and Canada. Over the years we have cultivated excellent customer/supplier relationships and currently source lumber from over 150 mills in the United States from Texas to New England. In addition to keeping inventory positions in dimension lumber and boards, the company also contracts commodity items on an annual basis. We maintain two distribution warehouses and have re-manufacturing capabilities to fit the needs of our customers.

In 2018, we officially kicked off our Exports and Industrial Division to assist new and existing US forest products facilities in expanding and strengthening their markets locally and globally, as well as assisting in the procurement of forest products for both US and Global Industrial Customers. For Exports, we offer a turn-key export service that targets markets where your products are most valuable. Part of this process is also evaluating opportunities in domestic markets. There is an insatiable demand for sustainable forest products like we abundantly grow and produce.
Y&Y Hardwoods LLC was founded in 1991 by Doug Younts and his Father in Law Joe Young. In 1996 Joe retired but continued to be involved with the company. Doug soon partnered with a lumber company in Liberty NC, added 5 dry kilns and operated there for over 20 years. In 2016 Y&Y Hardwoods moved its operations to Thomasville NC and built a state-of-the-art facility on 26 acres formally owned by Thomasville Furniture Industries. With 10 million Board feet of dry sheds to house all green stickered lumber and a 45 thousand square foot warehouse that house’s all kiln dried lumber ready for shipment.
Y&Y Hardwoods is a family owned business with Doug’s wife Lisa as the companies office manger and son Jacob as the companies Yard Manager. Y&Y hardwoods supplies lumber to the furniture industry in NC, VA, and TN as well as lumber abroad.
